WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

"71 miles up the road" or "looks like ive missed more than i ever have before"

Posted over 3 years ago
im currently 71 miles east of my usual mogging location. i refuse to give a name to the town in which i am currently staying but i gaurantee that it is not for any clandestine reasons. i have been away from mog for several days now and it looks like ive missed more posts than ever before and since i dont think im going to have regular access to a computer for the next 9 days i probably will never catch up. on my drive across the state of tennessee i had a chance to listen to the trojan dub box 1 box set. it is 100% killer, i assure you that if you are in the right mood this box set will get you high without herbal aid... it is really that good. we are talking about a run through of some of the hardest hitting dub proffessionals including king tubby, the aggrovators, gregory issacs, the upsetters... the list goes on and it is a whos who of the dub world. then i put on another disc that i will not name for the sake of making this post fun... the band is the answer to the following question:which band not only shared a practice space with black flag, but also a drummer in 1984?as i was driving i was thinking about all of the useless rock n roll trivia that we store in our brains. what is your favorite useless rock n roll factoid? do you know the answer to mine? it is always amazing the amount of truly useless crap we remember. makes you wonder what you could do if your brain was freed of all of this trivia... we could all be rocket scientists man!!! woohoo!!!

  1. Kate says I couldn't think of a useless rock 'n roll factoid, but I do something useless to share! Queen Victoria owned a bustle with a music box in it that played "God Save the Queen" every time she sat down. That has stuck in my brain for years for some reason and now I finally had a reason to share it.

  2. Pseudo Cyborg says Not many folk know that Brian Wilson is deaf in one ear. Sorry. That's the best I can do right now with this thing called "work" and this other thing called "a headache". If either of these continue the way they have, I'm going to have to put "a bullet" to "my head".

  3. 1234chainsaw says Umm, The Descendents (cause Bill Stevenson drummed for both)?

  4. kat3260 says I've often pondered what I could do with my brain if I hadn't filled it will all the song lyrics and music-related tidbits that it stores....here's one factoid I just recently learned - "Sittin On The Dock of the Bay" was released after Otis Redding's death

  5. Anonymous says Familiar but good: The outgroove of "Blackbird" on "The White Album", when played backwards, DOES sound a lot like "Paul is dead, man. Miss him. Miss him." Just like you've heard it said.

  6. 1234chainsaw says Here's one tidbit, though I wouldn't call it a factoid: Why do Marlboro Lights have white filters in the US but brown filters in Europe? (So that Keith Richards can tell which continent he's on.)

  7. etcvisitor says ha ha good job chainsaw, i usually stump people with mine... it is also good to know that the cigarette companies are looking out for keith richards' well being. in relation to fedge's comment, i would like to add that not only does it appear to say something when you play lead zepplin's stairway to heaven backwards but it also makes the song 10 times more enjoyable. ive always wanted to organize a cover version where i play it backwards and sing the words that it sounds like he is saying. "my sweet satan i walked a little path and made me feel sad his powers are fake, (unintelligible muttering) he locked me in a toolshed" thats all i can remember but it really does sound cool when you listen to it like this.

  8. Anna says “my sweet satan i walked a little path and made me feel sad his powers are fake, (unintelligible muttering) he locked me in a toolshed” This sounds as familiar as a lullaby my mother used to sing to me.... Time for introspection.

  9. thill says I don't know if it is a factoid but i always think of the story of Brian Wilson driving around in the 60's and Be My Baby by the Ronnettes comes on and he had to pull to the side because he was so blown away. He realized the bar had been raised.
