"greatest song ever?" or "what the hell is wrong with me?"

if someone were to ask me on the spot "what is the greatest song ever written?" i would immediately reply "(don't fear) the reaper". this is if i were to give my answer zero thought. if i were to my answer any thought what so ever, my answer would be something completely different. in fact, if i were to put any thought into this (don't fear) the reaper wouldnt even be considered in the running.however, mojo ranked the song 80 in the 100 greatest singles of all timerolling stone ranked it 397 in the 500 greatest songs of all timeand also called it "best rock single" of 1976.wtf.

    spaceling says The thing is that "Don't Fear (the Reaper)" doesn't sound at all like the other songs by BOC. Isn't that strange. I've always thought they were channeling something to be blesses with that song. Compare it to their other hit "Godzilla" -- like a totally different band.

    etcvisitor says im actually really scared to listen to anything else they have ever done. i dont think i have ever heard anything else they recorded and i kind have some notion that if i were to hear something else that they did, my world would come crumbling down around me completely destroying the fantasy land that i had created around that song.
