since mog seems to be on a hip hop kick, i figured i woud add my two cents. i was once asked what my favorite OPENING lines to any hip-hop song are. it didnt take long for my mouth to start moving and without a thought the opening lyrics to "at the helm" by heiroglyphics started pouring out. Del tha funkee homosapian lyrics do it for me everytime. i. ive posted the lyrics and now i pose the question: what is your favorite OPENING LINE for a hip-hop song? i mean the first lines in the song not a specific person's first line that happens somewhere in the middle, im talking lines that floor you from beat one. a chorus can precede the lines if it is the opening of the song, im talking flows here. My rhymes is like droppin your head on cementCrackin it open hopin to make a dent; I'm hell-bent on resurrection, per-fectionLesson #1: rekindle the essenceRap ain't about bustin caps and fucking bitchesIt's about fluency with rhymin ingenuityAll of this is new to me, see I peep rhymeswith scrutiny, under a microscope I walk a tightropeA thin line between insanity and sanitymixed with a little vanity, boostin the moralitywith Hiero hospitality, soon to strike it: rich like calories, salaries, ahh sounds like a planAnd, I will expand hip-hop as wellMight even kick a little impromptu, to stomp youweaklings, speaking things foreign to the human earthat you will fear now, whether you like it or notBlood clots on you little life on the situationand on the stipulations... the shit you wastintime on you pawns, it was planned like thatBut we can fight back, like David Horowitzand say we want no more of thisand put it in a cyrogenic statusReplace it with the lastest in technologyHip-Hop policies that demolish ya folliewOlly olly oxen free, get off of meYou can't see this, your defeatist attitude'llget you nowhere fast, I tend to my task causeLife is a blast when you know what you're doinBest to know what you're doin 'fore your life get ruinedLife is a thrill when your skill is developedIf you ain't got a skill or trade, then shut the hell up

  3. Wanbli says I think my favorite line is from the fist Boogie Down Production joint "Criminal Minded" and the first track "Poetry". KRS-One rips it and it sets the tone for all the hip hop I would come to know and love down the line. "Well now you're forced to listen to the teacher and the lesson Class is in session so you can stop guessin If this is a tape or a written down memo See I am a professional, this is not a demo In fact call it a lecture, a visual picture Sort of a poetic and rhythm-like mixture Listen, I'm not dissin but there's somethin that you're missin Maybe you should touch reality, stop wishin For beats with plenty bass and lyrics said in haste If this meaning doesn't manifest put it to rest I am a poet, you try to show it, yet blow it It takes concentration for fresh communication Observation, that is to see without speaking Take off your coat, take notes, I am teachin a class, or rather school, cause you need schooling I am not a king or queen, I'm not ruling This is an introduction to poetry A small dedication to those that might know of me They might know of you and maybe your gang But one thing's for sure, neither one of y'all can hang Cause yo I'm like a arrow, and Scott is the crossbow Say something now ... thought so You seem to be the type that only understand The annihilation and destruction of the next man That's not poetry, that is insanity It's simply fantasy far from reality Poetry is the language of imagination Poetry is a form of positive creation Difficult, isn't it? The point? You're missin it Your face is in front of my hand so I'm dissin it"
