october 3rd represents the official release date of ad astra per aspera's first full length album, catapult calypso. ive been watching this lawrence kansas band for the past couple of years and own both of their previous releases. i have been known to describe ad astra per aspera simply by stating that they are my favorite band in north america and i am extremely excited about this release. the previous EP "cubic zirconia" (2004) is nothing to scoff at clocking in at roughly 20 minutes over 4 songs. but i am looking forward to not having to push repeat. the band mixes highly textured song writing while balancing it with very memorable melodic flow and within a song they can range from sheer black metal screams to sonic youth spaciness with ease. i dont know exactly what i mean here. there really is no description that can do them justice in my eyes. you should check them out for yourself at:http://www.myspace.com/adastraperasperahttp://www.sonicunyon.com/http://www.adastraperaspera.com/
