Going stag to concerts?

Posted almost 6 years ago
Have you ever gone to a concert alone? No? Would you ever?Yes? Which ones have you gone stag to?Me? It depends. If it's a band/musician that I absolutely need to see but nobody else I know would go with me, yes. Such was the case for Fiona Apple. July 24th, 2006.But I usually prefer going to a concert with at least one other person who is as enthusiastic/excited/spastic as I am so it'll be guaranteed that I'll have fun. If not, I can still dance in my seat all by myself.xoxo

  1. BarrieSutcliffe says A good valid question. I was just talking to a lady-friend tonight who couldn't get someone to go to a New Pornographers concert with her (I'd go, but I have to work). I told her to go alone, but she said that would be "weird." I don't mind going to shows alone, but it doesn't happen often. The last time it happened was when I saw Tool/Meshuggah in 2002. It was a good time, and allowed me a chance to concentrate on the good hard rock tunes. Perhaps one advantage of going alone is that you can act like a complete freak, since everyone is a stranger (aside from the odd scenester friends you see every so often at shows...).

  2. lemontwist says No, but I have two upcoming concerts I feel bad for dragging my boyfriend along to. He really can't stand the music I listen to. Oh well. :)

  3. Heggs says I've gone to concerts by myself and yes it can be some of the most awkward times ever. Granted, most of the concerts I go to are small bar concerts so it's like going out drinking by yourself where there are a few crowds of friends that you don't belong to and most people seem to know someone in one of the bands personally but you're out of the loop. It's worth it to see those amazing bands you love though but don't do it right after a breakup because it is just depressing.

  4. ivylander says A few years ago, for business reasons, I was in Paris by myself. (Sure wish I was still in that business.....) Decided I needed to see some music and scanned the papers. Whoa, Bebel Gilberto was playing that night at a club within about 20 minutes' walk. I strolled over to see if there were any tickets left (doubtful), but whoa, got lucky again. She was terrific, the band was terrific, everything was terrific. Except that there was no one to share the terrificness with. Resolved after that night never to see music alone again.

  5. Dale says I haven't tried to drag my wife to a show in eight years (Rammstein & KMFDM), so if I go to a concert, it's usually by myself. I'm going to see Kasabian in a month, and I already know I'm driving by myself. Going with someone else is way better, tho.

  6. Spacemunky says I usually prefer to go alone because I like to get right up front in the pit and worrying about where someone else is and if they're having fun detracts from the experience.

  7. SWozniak says The best concerts I've been to were where I went alone. Which is most of them.
