I did what?

Now, I know this is stupid in the sense that he could very possibly follow the links back and read this, but, well, I'm an insignificant nobody and there's no reason for me to believe that he will. But I'm flabbergasted that I posted something on Ben Gibbard's MOG. First, the idea that I have the opportunity to get in direct contact with one of my favorite musicians is spellbinding. The one I spent my last twelve bucks on a few months ago to pick up a copy of his lo-fi-to-the-max album (All-Time Quarterback). The one whose live quirks I've picked up by listening to concert recordings, and who I got to sing along with perfectly at the last Death Cab show I saw. The one who started to play one of my favorite songs at the same show, much to the confusion of everyone else around me when I jumped in the air screaming - they had no idea what it was ("Pictures in an Exhibition"). The one who made me cry at that concert ("What Sarah Said"). The one who got me through this past week when my grandfather died (again, "What Sarah Said"). The one whose music I was listening to when I got the phone call and found out (the You Can Play These Songs With Chords album - the phone call interrupted "Hindsight" - I remember these things). The one whose song I recorded as part of a Christmas EP I did with some friends ("I Was a Kaliedoscope").I could have gushed all these things to him on his MOG. But I didn't. Why? Probably embarassment. Probably worried that he's got a stalker or an obsessive fan. (I haven't even been listening to that much DCFC lately.) Instead, I just thanked him for his latest recommendation, which I need to check out.Because the last time I looked at his MOG, I saw he'd been listening to Brian Eno, who I'd heard of but never listened to. I finally checked out "Ambient 1 - Music for Airports," and now fall asleep to it every night. Once again, Mr. Gibbard makes his mark. Thanks for everything, Ben. If you ever read this.

  2. YasminGhaliya says ahhhhh. I know how you feel. Being able to comment on Ben's personal MOG is just unreal. And it's a bit silly I think to idolize someone, but in my opinion, Mr. Gibbard certainly fits the criteria of an idol. cheers. :)
