Was Lou on that? Guess not. Interesting story --
(from allmusic):
"After Lou Reed left the Velvet Underground, bassist Doug Yule took control of the group. Retaining the name "The Velvet Underground," Yule assembled several new lineups of the band and toured the U.S. By the time Yule's VU recorded their first album, the band featured Boston-based vocalist Willie Alexander and was playing a set of conventional pop/rock songs. Squeeze, the only album recorded with a bastardized version of the Velvet Underground, was released in 1973 to uniformly terrible reviews; Yule broke up the band shortly after its release. Over the years, Squeeze has not only become increasingly rare — after all, not many copies of the record were pressed — it has disappeared from the official Velvet Underground discography, and Yule's attempt to prolong the band's career has virtually been forgotten. I heard it once when it came out, courtesy of a friend who was fanatical about VU (and, as it happened, more than a little disturbed). Cannot remember much about it, which I suppose says it all....Recently Doug Yule gave an interview to a British music magazine and said, if I recall correctly, that the band's management put him under a lot of unwelcome pressure not only to record "Squeeze" but also to tour England with the new band. He was not happy with much of what went on during that time.

i'd forgotten it existed too but i was thinking about the old vu-related rarities tapes i used to have, like the 90 minute version of sister ray and the lou reed and the primitives single, 'the ostrich' ("you put head between your legs and do whatever you please, now do the ostrich! [lou makes ostrich sound]") which had this ridiculous, er, equally ridiculous song called 'cycle annie' as the b-side that i loved. got them from the dearly departed sound exchange in austin, now open for enchilada lunch specials (it's a baja fresh). i think squeeze was on one of those tapes they had and the completist in me wishes i had bought it. doug yule wasn't a total hack, and it couldn't have been any worse than 'the ostrich.' i think.

I enjoy Yule's vocals on the canonical "Loaded". They are a nice change of pace, and he's sure got better pipes than Nico.
