Herbie, my apologies

So this is probably not really news to anyone except for me.Way back in the 80s, my first exposure to Herbie Hancock was Rockit. I didn't really like the song, and so it tainted my impression of Herbie Hancock's music and talents.For some reason, I picked up one of his early albums, Takin' Off, and my opinion started to change. Shortly thereafter I picked up Maiden Voyage and again was impressed.

We went to see Gnappy last night. They're a funky jazz band, and they can really get down.They played a bunch of stuff off their new album Unloaded, which is worth checking out, as well as a some standards and covers. They played a smoking version of Miles Davis' All Blues, which really got the crowd pumped. And how can you go wrong with a extra funky version of the Sanford and Son theme worked

Tonight, Bass Emporium held a clinic with Jens Ritter of Ritter Basses. He talked about his design and construction philosophies and answered questions and of course, showed off his basses.Man, this guy makes some incredible looking and sounding basses. I'll admit that I probably couldn't comfortably pull off playing some of his less traditional designs, but there's no doubt that he makes interest
