A blues legend that influenced every major rock band to emerge from the 60s, 70s, 80s, and beyond, one wonders how many people even recognize the name? Sure, 1 in 10 may recall that Cream recorded "Born Under A Bad Sign", but how many of them actually believe Clapton wrote it? Pity, isn't it, another true african-american legend co-opted by a white male middle-class turned superstar brit.

  1. Iren says Born under a bad sign is the only Blues album that I own... great stuff, it's got amazing cover art and with each passing day 'If it wasn't for bad luck, i'd have no luck at all' means more and more to me... forget clapton ect, it was Danzig covering The Hunter that got me to check Born Under a Bad Sign.

  2. fairportfan says British Blues Bands are a whole sub-genre of their own; and *Long John Baldry* (who, so far as i know, gave proper credit to his sources) is in many ways its fountainhead - check out my review of his album, "*Everything Stops for Tea*

  3. sugarbaby says I didn't know that Clapton didn't write "Born Under A Bad Sign." I will have to check it out. Oh, and I'd say that woman needs to get out in the sun a bit more.

  6. ROCKNROLLPIMP1 says no dood B.B. KING yo i read about clapton mentioning him years ago picked up I'll Play the Blues for You....and just love Laundromat Blues that damn in session with Stevie, the frickin bomb dude! King is one of the major influences on blues and rock guitar players. Without him, modern guitar music would not sound as it does

  7. dermahrk says I think that Clapton and his ilk - the blues-loving British superstars - actually increase the audience for the old / dead blues guys. They are certainly not shy about citing their influences. And those song royalties go SOMEWHERE - hope it benefits the bluesmen or their families. Can't fault them for having good taste and bringing that music more into the public consciousness.

  9. RGM says True, Pimp I had a Bass Teacher who use to bag on SRV for ripping off King, but I thought he was a bit way too pickey about stuff. Which is why he was a great Bass player and teacher. I just saw King as an influence to SRV, a platform for his S.W. style. I heard Hendrix's sound stand out more when I first heard him... R,I.P. SRV The Legend
