Why is Sir Mick Jagger Such a TIGHTWAD ??????

Posted about 5 years ago
You hear so many stories of the Stones (and, of course, you know it's MICK only....) mis-reprsenting the publishing credits on their songs. Here are some of the more flagrant violations:Love In Vain (Let It Bleed) - Robert Johnson (it's correct on Get Yer Ya Ya's Out I think)Live With Me - music almost all by Bill WymanStop Breaking Down - Robert JohnsonCan't You Here Me Knocking - major contribution by Mick TaylorDead Flowers - major contribution by Gram ParsonsSweet Virginia - major contribution by Gram ParsonsTorn & Frayed - maybe completely (except for lyric) written by Gram ParsonsVentiletor Blues - maybe completely writtem (except for lyric) by Mick Taylorand you ask yourself, why, Mick can't those few songs receive their correct attributions and the composers at least receive their fair share of noteriety? While Bill will always be remembered as a full fledged founding member of the Stones, who today knows one of the Robert Johnson, Gram Parsons, or even Mick Taylor? You begin to wonder just how much stuff Brian Jones allowed Mick to, uh, keep?

  1. Dale says And then throw in the shaft job they gave The Verve for the ridiculously small sample from "Bittersweet Symphony".

  2. Terry Staunton says When you consider the outpouring of George Harrison on the triple album All Things Must Pass, several songs from which he was unable to place on Beatles records, it truly makes you wonder what Brian Jones might have been sitting on for his own prospective solo career, stuff that Mick might have vetoed for Stones releases.

  3. deadmandeadman says Let's not forget WILD HORSES....Marrianne Faithful contributed substantialy to this song. (I have read that the stones (Keith?) have paid royalties over the yrs) don't know

  4. Jonh Ingham says Wyman also came up with key pieces of 'Jumping Jack Flash' and 'Street Fighting Man'. Mick is greedy. But probably so is Keith. And lets not forget Zeppelin attributing all those blues songs to themselves. Writer Nick Kent had the chutzpah to call them on it twice in interviews - cue embarressment and tantrums. Apparently they later made significant payments to a variety of composers.
