I'll leave it to the more folk-savvy correspondents out there to honor the achievements of John Stewart as a member of The Kingston Trio, and his track record as a solo artist on Capitol and subsequently. I just want to post his version of his most successful song.

  1. fairportfan says I find that - at least until i listen to this a bit more - i prefer the Monkees' version, but it's close. I definitely like it better than Anne Murray's. I had the impression that "Daydream Believer" was another Boyce & Hart song. Another Important Person Even If You Didn't Know His Name from the early folk era gone... Two-thirds of the original Kingston Trio have stepped on a rainbow.

  2. Spike says It's not easy writing a beautiful song like "Daydream Believer." It's great to find people who like music that isn't necessarily harsh, gnarly, arch, cynical, smarmy, pugnacious, cantankerous or churlish. People who, like me, have the iron stomach necessary for music that is sweet, life-affirming, popular, fluffy-tailed and cuddly.

  3. Bartleby says Spike's said it so well - I like the sound of cantankerous.

  4. Spike says It's almost onomatopoeic.

  5. Mike the Knife says Loved Stewart's music from the Kingston Trio, on through his solo career. Sorry he's left us...

  6. Jonh Ingham says Still can't get used to the idea these guys are reaching their 60s-70s-80s...Like fairportfan, though this was a boyce-hart song. Always fascinating to see how these guys continue to shape pop culture after their names fade from fronting the charts.

  7. dermahrk says I much prefer John's version, which I've never heard before this.
