Liars: Stepping sideways

Posted over 2 years ago
So, the rumours can quietly be dispelled: Liars' eponymous new album is, indeed, "laid-back", "song-oriented", and whatever they meant to say in the press release, but it is, in a sense, a less radical departure from their usual style than "Drum's Not Dead" was. The biggest shock comes from the album's stomping opener, "Plastic Casts of Everything", and its unmistakably "rawk" riff. The hint at a certain interest in 70's riffing in their cover of Led Zep's "How Many More Times" (from last year's limited edition Keepmother 10") is confirmed in tracks like "Cycle Time". In a sense, the album is more basic than its predecessor, but, as mentioned, the songwriting has taken a giant leap forward - the songs are just HUGE.Here's "Plaster Casts of Everything" for the impatient:

  2. emit says Strange... They've been around for a while. But yeah, I can see them not being really popular, and I do hope this album takes them to wider audiences.

  3. Bartleby says Funny you should mention Liars because they're an act I've been wanting to catch live for quite a while. Missed them when they were in London back in July. Nice track... you definitely the "spunk."

  4. emit says Well, they're not playing Madrid this time around, so I'll have to miss them on this tour, too...
