Hey Elvin...
I write for www.fasterlouder.com.au in Australia/Sydney and been a fan of yours for too long to mention. Grew up ijn NYC and seen you in a few places through the 51 years on the planet. Hope to catch up with an interview and will be contacting deltagroove....but meanwhile...
I have not heard a track yet, but you have been joined by one of the best guitarists I have heard in awhile, Derek Trucks. Since you have played with Duane Allman and many others in the past, how do you rate Derek, and besides yourself, who are some of YOUR favourite pickers?
Adios for now from Sydney!
Paul B
Hey Paul, Good question. But now all I can do is ask this;
Hi Elvin, Its gonna be great havin' you on the MOG. My question is this; When you put together your list of "favorite pickers" do you take into account their performance ensemble? There are some who wanna show-boat, and others who look to the collaborative creation, you know? Back-porch jammin' can be such a high.
So when you're judging a "picker" do you take his/her ensemble playing into the equation?
Just for curiosity - first time i saw ther Kinks (Atlanta, 1975) you were opening. (Alex Cooley booked some Odd Combinations back in the day.)
Since they were in virtually a glam stage and had horns and girl singers/dancers and a multimedia show - was it as strange an experience for you as it seemed it might have been from out front?
i was curious who some major influences on you were and for the hell of it - can you list your top five favorite bands/artists? (fav bands and artists are completely different from artists/bands/people who influenced your music for the record)
thanks!!! and thanks for finding and adding me!
Mmmm as David Hyman so rightly says....feels like label
What the hell happened to Paul Butterfield?
Paul
feels like label
It probably is, and, you know what? I don't mind, so long as the result is a level of sharing between artist and fans that MOG makes possible. If it's just the label involved, then I'd agree, but I don't mind the label acting as a bit of a buffer.
As for questions, gosh. So many to ask, and so little time. But, I'm interested in stories. Tell us about the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. What did you learn, both musically and otherwise, from Paul and the other musicians? Did Paul have a tendency to rule with an iron fist, or was the music the outcome of a collective creative input? If the latter, please give some examples of who brought what to the table.
Ask away! and wait....
Still waiiting...not enough questions?
And on the question above...whatever happened to Paul Butterfield...well, he passed away after 45 years on this planet, back in 1987.
Never let it be said that he did not like a good time, but the good times did not like him..
Peace
Paul
