I got a pretty good buzz going on at the moment and yet I want to blog about the DC hardcore scene, ironic huh? Regardless of the DC punks attitude about drinking their music spoke to me like few others have in my 42 years on this rock. The power, the energy, the aggresion has in my opinion not been matched in the 27 years since the Bad Brains burst on the scene and changed everything. Unfortunately I wasn't turned on to the DC scene until 1982 or 83 so I missed the first wave and didn't get to experience it first hand until 1985 but as soon as I did hear it I was hooked and went out of my way to get everything released by the bands from there. By the time I moved to the area in 1988 after stints in Atlanta GA, Columbus OH and Richmond VA it of course had undergone a major transformation and I knew I had missed one of the greatest music revolutions ever. There was a bright side however. I managed to be there for some of Fugazi's earliest shows plus some of the better third wave DC bands like Swiz, Marginal Man, Fire Party, Soulside, Ignition and others not to mention a few left overs like Government Issue (to this day still one of my favorite bands ever), Black Market Baby, Scream, and Dag Nasty.I just wish I could get a time machine and go back to those days and live them over.Void at the Wilson CenterFaith

  1. supertopsecret says wow, these videos showed me just how much of a panzy ass white boy i am. I would have been shot, stabbed or eaten at these shows, no doubt. I did love the green shorts and tube socks i saw the singer of Void rocking. However, everything else scared me a lot.
