I picked up a GLS song from the 2006 SxSW torrent, and liked this particular song. I tried to see them that same year at a crappy 6th street bar at 5:00 in the afternoon - not the best time for a quiet alt-folk band...But, just getting home from an SF show and heard this song live. Tony Dekker, the singer and songwriter of the band, has this unbelievable and haunting voice. My point is, for the $12
Big fan from back in the Boston days. The record comes out 7/10 and have tix to see them at Great American Music Hall in SF. Anyone else going, or old enough to remember the band that shoulda busted out?
I heard about Hem a few years back via a CD ring, and have since purchased more of their music - they're a great mix of traditional sounds and really pretty vocals. The story/legend of the band includes the very talented singer auditioning by singing a lullabye into an answering machine. One of my favorite songs from the album is called "Half Acre".So, when I recently heard one of my favorite s...

Had a chance to meet J5 this spring - some of the nicest guys I've ever come across. Between their philosophy, shows and records, I've become a big fan. This track in particular is a chilling story about what they call the "street life"...
"My noggin's getting soggyAnd my spirits are saggin'Time to take a ride in myBlue water wagon."Something about this song that is all about summer to me and the redemption of dippin' yourself into a cool lake. Blue Mountain was an alt-country act active in the 90's, and the album is full of great songs. At iTunes: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?id=20007002&s=143441
Saw Neko and her excellent band this past spring at Antone's in Austin. Agree with the earlier posts about the red hair and black leather combination - damn. Throw in that amazing voice, and you've got a show that's worth every cent of your ticket. Check her out if you can...
