Well, it took me some time, but here I am, finally talking about not metal. :)
So here we go: being back at University has left me with very little time to write or do whatever it is I do, but one must always make time for concerts. And this year, I've discoverede a gem. Just up the street from my house (in fact I can see it form my porch) is a little joint called the Starlight Lounge. And this last week has given me the chance to witness the awe inspiring talent of the Canadian Indie Scene. First, last week brought around Andrew Whiteman and his band Apostle of Hustle. I must say, an incredible show was put on. Mr Whiteman is an absolutely genius guitar player and this was a real treat to my ears. Interestingly enough, the opening act was former DFA79 drummer Sebastien Grainger, with his new act SG and the Mountains. In the same spirit as DFA79, Grainger threw down some awesome uptempo rock with wicked, wicked bass lines. Later in the week, I find The Dears are making a stop at Starlight as well. So of ocurse I had to go. And I did. And it was awesome. The Dears provided much more drinking (probably due to the company I was with) so this concert is a little more blurred, but it was still incredible, Murray Lightburn was wicked to see in action.
Murray Lightburn? you may ask. Andrew Whiteman? why does this sound framiliar?
Well, if you're a fan of anything indie and anything Canadian, hopefully you know Broken Social Scene (Emily Haines, Leslie Feist, Jason Collett, among others).
Not the best review in the world sure, but hell, you get the chance to see any of these acts, do it, you will not be disappointed.
Cheers. `-hb.
