it's actually quite surprising i haven't posted anything by beirut until now. after playing out gulag orkestar i thought i may as well jump on the wagon and really give this album a good listen.

There is something in the air today, though I can't put my finger on it.

It's something like hope, maybe.

I'm not usually a fan of remixes (not really at all) but this one is almost too good and I'm pretty certain I will be playing this repeatedly straight into the New Year.

And it's actually REALLY enjoyable.

A live recording with surprisingly great sound quality.

And honestly, if anything could hit the nail on the head, so to speak, it's certainly this song, at this moment.

And just to reiterate my point, the lyrics are as follows:

if you were, say, taking a road trip from amarillo, texas to santa fe, new mexico -- what sort of mix would you take along with you? what would fit that mood?

for those who are not familiar with this area, think canyons, dryness, cold mountain air, long open stretches of nothingness.

devotchka, in my opinion, fits this bill hands down. but my mind is blank when it comes to anything else. i have one week. so please, kindly suggest any and everything.

I am. It's true. And unexpected.

I'm almost a little annoyed with myself at the over-abundance of slightly depressing, down-tempo song selections I've been making as of late.

But? Oh well?

One of my favorite tracks from one of the softest, yet overwhelmingly emotional albums I've heard in a very long time. I think it has something to do with the change of seasons.

P.S. Cheers to overreacting! Which I did, to an extreme extent, yesterday. Ain't we all just so emotional?

being completely unhappy with most progressions (if one could call it that) in music as of late, i've simply regressed and found comfort in the old-churning-out-the-new. not simply for a familiar sound, but because i feel a piece of my personal taste has been preserved there, and to a near exquisite degree.
