WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

I NEED YOUR HELP.

Posted over 2 years ago
if you were, say, taking a road trip from amarillo, texas to santa fe, new mexico -- what sort of mix would you take along with you? what would fit that mood?for those who are not familiar with this area, think canyons, dryness, cold mountain air, long open stretches of nothingness.devotchka, in my opinion, fits this bill hands down. but my mind is blank when it comes to anything else. i have one week. so please, kindly suggest any and everything.

  1. Marco1019 says I just came across your post, and I'm suggesting "Concho":http:concho.tv for your trip based on your description of the area. Hailing from Texas but currently residing in California, he describes his music as 'desert electronica'. His album is available for free download on his site, and it's worth checking out.

  2. vannatta says Hmmm.... at 4.5 hours - (3.5 with my foot at the pedal) - you'll get about 6.5 albums worth of stuff in (on average) ... When driving through that type of terrain (Valley of Fire in Vegas type vistas and beauty) and flat contemplative plains of nothingness - I like to dial in things that can really open my mind up without any psychotropics. The following albums are extremely hypnotic, and are already (back to back) mixed for your zen-zone pleasure: (Artist / Title here) - but of course, you don't want to lapse in to a coma, so here's the order too - so it kind of builds... and eventually rocks out - but not too hard... (I would keep with the theme of the first and third - so if you want more of those suggestions let me know) Harold Budd and Brian Eno - Plateaux of Mirrors Glenn Gould - Glenn Gould Plays Bach Piano Works Philip Glass - Glassworks David Bowie - Heathen XTC - Oranges and Lemons (or Skylarking) Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense - Van

  6. effect defect says dondeluxe: i feel it's almost obligatory that in/casino/out is played through at least once during this trip, and johnny cash a certainty. actually, i have about 8 hours of time to fill considering the trip there and back. good times. hopefully.

  9. joeybenavides says Sneaker Pimp's Becoming X is a fantastic road trip album. I've logged more Texas highway hours than....well....I've driven through Texas and the Southwest a fair amount, and that album never disappoints.

  11. effect defect says Pretty brilliant. I took most of these suggestions, including downloading some Concho (which, thank you, by the way) and thoroughly enjoyed the drive.
