Jeff Tweedy - The Thanks I Get
-
Artist:
Jeff Tweedy continues his excellence as he puts out his first batch of bearded uncle campfire songs. In his new DVD "Sunken Treasure" he runs through both Wilco and Uncle Tupelo classics as well as a few new gems. One of those that sticks out to me is "The Thanks I Get". Tweedy is having fun with this song and it is evident. If anyone has seen the Wilco documentary "I Am Trying To Break Your Heart", Jeff Tweedy certainly came off as a moody bastard who is hard to be around. He has shaken off that stigma by getting off the drugs and getting back on the road. Trying to not sound like a complete fan boy, but really everything the man touches is gold.
"The Thanks I Get" seems like a skeleton of a song to be fully developed at a later date. Tweedy laments getting no R-E-S-P-E-C-T from his woman. She nags when he gets home late, she doesn't listen, you know married shit. But of course it turns around in the end and the couple learns to love their little nuances. This is the type of song that makes me look forward to the next Tweedy project whether it be Wilco, Loose Fur or whatever he is involved in.
