Skinny ties abound in this 1980 video from The Cars for "Touch And Go". This isn't an obscure track by any stretch of the word, it still gets airplay on classic rock raio. But I figured I'd include it because Panorama is kind of the "lost" Cars album. Most (not all) people thought it sucked when it came out, especially after the pop genius of their debut, and the follow up, "Candy-O". I always thought the only great songs on Panorama were "Touch and Go" and the title track, "Panorama", both of which fearure some pretty slick guitar playing from Elliot Easton. BTw, the image above, which I pulled off Google, features a period LP copy of the record, complete with "cut out" in the lower left hand corner. There were so many copies printed, because it was expected that Panorama would be a hit, and all those unsold LPs had to be dumped. So the record company physically cut the corners, marked down the price significantly, and made the records non-returnable. These days, they just put CDs in a landfill! Anyways, enjoy "Touch and Go" - an essential 1980 pop classic from The Cars!

Sweet -- the first Cars tune I ever fell in love with back in '82 or whenever.
I'm not a musician, but the tune is said to be "musically interesting" due to its polyphonic rhythms or something. I just love the switch between the icy synths and the Duane Eddy-ish gallop and twang the song takes as it switches from the verse to the chorus.
Mr. Easton was my first-ever guitar hero -- even have his solo album, in vinyl and everything. Pity the single version is so truncated.

its a shame more people don't know what a great guitar player he is, all his solos were so short, but so lyrical and memorable. i've never heard his solo record, hoping I can get it on cd. i missed The New Cars this summer, I was surprised to hear from friends that the were great, but not really, given the amazing players involved.
