WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Will someone please tell B. Fleischmann that his singer sucks?

Posted over 3 years ago
OK - hugely obscure topic for discussion here:I really like B. Fleischmann's stuff, especially "Welcome Tourist". But he has this habit recently of using this horrendous "singer" named Christoff Kurzmann, who mumbles these awkward lyrics with a German (I think) accent like that scary Raiders Of The Lost Ark Gestapo guy.OK, only 2 tracks on B's "The Humbucking Coil" have Vox on them, but it makes them suck. The rest of the record is pretty great, like all his stuff. Why do so many electronic music artists think that they are progressing by putting really bad vocals over great instrumental tracks? Dance music is one thing, but if we're talking IDM, then PUT THE MIKE DOWN. The lyrics are almost always stupid and the singers almost always mediocre. Minimal electronic music especially is great for getting your imagination going, developing a picture in your mind's eye to accompany the sounds. Adding some lisping German perv to the mix = BUZZKILL. Watch the video and see if you don't agree:

  2. ebuzzmiller says the ski mask really helps his mumbling, I think.

  3. kewagi says Full Ack. Everytime I listen to the Humbucking Coil, I dive right into the music until some natural born gardener (or whatever, but definitely not a singer) decides to mumble all over it. I wish Fleischmann would release a "No vocals" version - that would make my life so much better.
