Reading, thinking, sleeping, breathing

Everyone gets to the point in their lfe when they need to calm the chatter in their mind. I guess a lot of people go for hikes, or listen to birds, watch the sea, etc. I don't drag myself away from my Mac nearly enough, but when I want to give the brain a little cooldown, Harold Budd's recordings are a potent elixir. "Luxa", like most of Budd's recordings, is quite minimal and atmospheric, with piano phrases placed throughout. At times, it can sound a bit like the music you'd hear getting a massage in Calistoga (although not that syrupy, and thankfully NO PAN FLUTES!) Budd's worked with Brian Eno, the Cocteau Twins, and Daniel Lanois, so he's got that going for him.......Harold Budd recently released the superb "Avalon Sutra" and claimed that it would be his last release. I really hope that this isn't true......

  1. spaceling says You can listen to Budd's poetry on By the Dawn's Early Light (1991). "Poem Aztec Hotel" is incredible. My favorite albums are "Plateaux of Mirror" (1980) and "The Pearl" (1984) both of which Budd made with Eno. Rothko has a beautiful cover of "Boy About 10", an homage to Budd titled "Harold Budd." I just found it and it was just so painfully gorgeous. It's track 7 on their 2001 album In The Pulse Of An Artery.
