Following along on the little chain letter type post Mtack and I got going - see her #3 post here:http://mog.com/mktackabery/blog_post/67363I got turned on to Everything But The Girl via The Style Council's "Cafe Bleu" album, on which Tracy guest sings the song "The Paris Match". Great, smoky chanteuse vocals. Soon after, I heard the track "Never Could Have Been Worse" by EBTG, and recognizing the voice, picked up their debut US record, which is wonderful. Throughout their career, EBTG have written some fantastic songs, reaching their creative zenith on the "Amplified Heart" album, which featured the worldwide smash "Missing".There are a ton of great tracks on that album, and the production is superb. But a great song can be stripped down to it's basic element and remain great - here's a perfect example, Ben and Tracy performing "Rollercoaster", from their 1994 album Amplified Heart, with just an acoustic guitar and vocals - just beautiful stuff!

Oh, and btw, just to be a prat - Tracy's new solo record, although much anticipated, is Dullsville - I'm actually shocked at how uninspiring it is, the songs just don't go anywhere, totally bums me out.

You get no argument from me ebuzz. EBTG has written some killer songs, and covered some great ones as well. I recently picked up Tracey's record, and though I liked it at first go, I too have found it pretty mundane and uninteresting on repeated listens. I can't get into it, it just sinks away. Very disappointing, especially in light of the great music she's done in the past.
Here's them doing their great cover of Cyndi Lauper's Time After Time, another fabo songwriter.

I'm devastated on how disappointing Tracey's new solo album is. My love for her knows no bounds but I could not get on board with this one.

yeah it amazes me for as long as she was gone that she wasn't able to write a few good songs - great songwriting is the hallmark of everything but the girl, guess now we know that Ben is the tunesmith. honestly i have listened to Tracy's record like 3 times and each time my opinion of it lessens....real bummer.
