Essential 80's Tracks, Part 76

Posted over 2 years ago
Does Parker Posey even REALIZE how much she owes Cindy Wilson???? Cindy is just so groovy and cute as a button in the video for "Song For A Future Generation" from the 1983 B-52's album "Whammy!" - in fact the whole band seems like they've either having a very good time, or they've been dosed with windowpane and set loose on a 1960's variety TV show set. Not much to say other than forget "Love Shack" and give "Song For A Future Generation" a listen - an essential 80's track!

  1. Sturgell says some guy at the msuci store was saying that the B-52's are proto punk. I still don't really see it

  2. Dale says Ah, good stuff again, ebuzz. "Legal Tender" from this album is also good. It did make me a bit wistful when Ricky says his piece, because he got sick not long after.

  3. ebuzzmiller says the guy at the music store is clueless. i don't think anyone would refer to the B-52's as proto punk. they were a LOT grittier on their first to records, the guitar was more upfront, Ricky Wilson was brilliant, but they probably didnt influence any punk bands. honestly, their first two albums are brilliant, check out this vid for Planet Claire:

  4. ebuzzmiller says funny dale, i almost posted Legal Tender, but I thought this video was encoded better (plus it's more fun). and yeah, so so sad that Ricky died, one of the first of his generation to die of Aids, before anyone really knew what it was. he was such an interesting guitar player.
