Ryuichi Sakamoto helped David Sylvian on his debut solo album "Brilliant Trees" in 1984. Sylvian had left his band Japan at the height of their popularity to pursue more introspective musical paths, and "Brilliant Trees" certainly sounded different than Japan - while electronic instruments still comprised a large part of Sylvian's sound, there were also acoustic instruments, used to add a natural element to the music which is quite beautiful. Sylvian's unique emotive voice is an acquired taste for many, but "Red Guitar" taken from the Brilliant Trees album (with an Anton Corbjin directed video) is just gorgeous, and an essential 80's track!
