Essential 80's Tracks, Part 38!

Posted over 2 years ago
1979, white boy english ska. The comedown from punk, less violent but still pissed off, looking for a job, a place to hang out, looking for a future. The Specials summarized what British youth were going thru, but everyone had a good time listening. While more famous for "Free Nelson Mandela", which is a bit later in their career (after lineup changes) the early Specials records are arguably their best. Check out "Gangsters" - an essential 80's track from The Specials!!!

  2. ebuzzmiller says Yo Crash - searched for any posts about "Gangsters" before I wrote this and didn't find any...weird...anyways, ya love some of the English Beat tracks and the obvious "Too Much Pressure" by The Selecter.....great stuff. but are you into Fun Boy Three by any chance??????

  3. CrashPryor says - I've heard of 'em, for sure, yo!...that's the group that formed in the rubble of the Specials, if I recall correctly...you should look for the Coventry Automatics (the Specials before they coined the new name, BTW-- it's really hot shite)...my band played with a group back on the East Coast from Baltimore (at the Bank) called the Skunks back in the early 90s...they're the only band I've ever heard that came close to that 2-Tone, British sound...BTW, don't plex on the double posting, it happens...I'm just happy to see it's a great band, instead of...the usual suspects/ darlings du jour that can't hold a candle to acts like these...

  4. Redvers Gerund says The Specials were truly great, but I don't advise any pilgramages to Coventry. It's just not worth it.
