Essential 80's Tracks, Part Thurteen

Posted over 3 years ago
Laurie Anderson's "Mister Heartbreak". This was one of those records that led me to other things I loved, namely the author/poet William S. Burroughs. Burroughs "performs" on the album closer, "Sharkey's Night". Also appearing on the album are Peter Gabriel and David Van Tiegham. After years listening to Yes and other progressive bands, Laurie Anderson entirely changed my perception of what "art rock" meant. This song, "Sharkey's Day", features Adrian Belew on guitar. Check out the incredible visuals on this 1984 video.

  1. Manos says Yeah, Sharkey's Night is a great track. This was the last Laurie Anderson album I listened to (probably a mistake).

  2. Spencer Owen says She is my favorite, and this is probably my favorite song. Imagine growing up with this song from late-toddler-age. It has probably significantly affected my life. Funny thing about being introduced to her work at a very young age by my mom is that I have found more and more to appreciate the more I have realized things about life, through elementary school, adolescence and to now. This is an amazing song and I thank you for introducing it to moggers.

  3. RevUp64 says I'd give the 3rd album, "Home of the Brave," a listen. It's in the same mode as the first two. And try to track down the film if you can find it. It was once on VHS and laserdisc.
