WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Filthy Indie Kids Ruin Everything

Posted about 1 year ago
Enon are far better (and punkier) live than anything I've ever heard of them recorded, the opening act (Get Down To Brass Tacks) was Death From Above-esque in the best possible way, and the DJ(William Fucking Reed) did two brief but damn fine sets. The weak link here was that Modified Arts remains one of the worst places to see a show I've ever been. A DJ has to die inside a little when he's spinning a good set and a room full of indie kids somehow force themselves to remain completely motionless and show no signs of emotion. So the important lesson here is to not be a complete ass and actully dance and laigh and smile and enjoy yourselves when music is being performed. Stillness and numbness are not the appropriate physical and emotional responses to live music. If nothing else Enon's bassist proved that I remain a complete sucker for girls who play instruments and girls with cute accents, and even more so in combination. It's good to know your Achilles' Heel, I think.

  1. democlez says Snubbing the opening acts is definitely a live music faux pa. Another thing that really rubs me the wrong way about some live music audiences is when they don't get into it until the popular single gets played. Sure, we all have our favorites, but I don't understand why a person would buy tickets to hear the select tracks that they know from the radio.

  2. dshs70 says Yep, after a really good set of all the members on thir normal instrumnets, Enon came back and did a few songs with cute bass player playing keyboards and singing, indie guy singer/guitarist on bass, and drummer on drums again, to do a few songs (such as the fucking superb "Knock That Door") and got on stage to half of the people there screaming "IN THIS CITY!", which would I imagine be slightly annoying, but fuck it. It was actually a bit better than the initial proper set, though.
