Buying CD's Based on Album Art is Sound Practice (Part 2)

Posted almost 4 years ago
The second purchase was Heavy Trash's self-titled album. I bought it based on nothing other than the fact that every inch it's sleeve is covered in Paul Pope artwork.Turns out Heavy Trash is a collaboration between Jon Spencer (He of the Blues Explosion) and Matt Verta-Ray (Madder Rose and Speedball Baby) and they deal in exactly the kind of stuff I love. These songs all fall somewhere in the vast expanse between punk, blues, and just a bit country. What can I say, I have a weakness for rockabilly with a side of punk and garage. Also, the album does not lack for songs about fucking, which bodes well for any album, really. You can't understand the control it's taking not to post the entirely filthy "Gatorade, but I'll throw up something a bit more indicative of the rest of the album. But I'm going to post the filth later, of course.

  2. dshs70 says The mighty Wikipedia tells me that "Damage" back in 2004 was their last release and that they apparently changed their name to just plain "Blues Explosion" for that record, too.

  3. dshs70 says Nevermind, I'm dumb. They have a singles collection due out in September from In The Red. Why the hell can't I edit a damn comment, anyway?

  4. brittanybf says ah that's right. i do remember the name change. no worries man, for all i knew they could've been long broken up. not sure why there's no edit comment button. would come in handy for all my typos.

  5. dshs70 says The whole typing things that can be read by other human beings is entirely overrated. And given all the side projects and lack of output, I'd say Blues Explosion is sort of de facto broken up for now, at least.
