Songs You Should Be Listening To

Just thought I'd point that out since pretty much everybody seems to have forgotten in the rush to get tatted up and waste time bitching about why nobody takes them seriously as opposed to, you know, making more fucking records.
So here are the Saturday Knights, having a damn good time. Two rappers, one DJ, and, on occasion (I'm told), Brian Weber of Dub Narcotic Soundsystem. And they seem to actually be enjoying themselves. They're not telling you how hard they are, rapping about their jewelry for five minutes, OR bitching about how everyone is out to get them (I'm looking at you, Kanye). They're having fun and, it seems, calling in a few favors. The fucking Dap-Tones show up at one point.
There's a little bit of old school rap ("45"), a bit of punk ("Mutt""), a bit of surf rock ("Surf Song"), and a touch of garage ("The Gospel"). The one I'm tossing out there is just fun and showing off on the mic, which I can get behind. Besides, how is "This ones for the people who count." not a great pun?

As I sit here thinking about how weird it is that everyone I know seems to be getting married/engaged with alarming regularity, how many bands I like and people I know seem to be in Seattle lately, and how uncomfortable I am with apparently now being "fashionable" (I may have to kill those girls), I present to you some quality music courtesy of King Khan & The Shrines and their Supreme Genius.
It's somewhere between The Animals, James Brown, and a group of mental patients being set loose on stage. And it's awesome. So enjoy, because if you don't no one will ever love you. Is dying alone really worth it? No. So enjoy. Also, a bit of dancing around the room like a mad person wouldn't be all that innapropriate in this case. It's the horns, I think.
(On a sidenote, the final song on this album reminds me of a previous epiphany. You can never be cooler than someone who can yell "Guitars!" and trigger a bad-ass guitar solo.)

i dont want to die alone. i think i'll stick to giving this song a thumbs up.
now what happened, you got called 'fashionable'?
Sadl, yeah. I developed a hatred of that word at my last job. Now I get out here and more comfortable with dressing however the fuck I feel like any given day and then someone has to go and say that. I happen to like being pretty much unnoticed.
lame i'm guessing it's not like it's a big compliment, especially, i'll bet, coming from them. like, you'll jump for joy that you make the cut in their eyes? ha

Speaker Speaker remain great, no one else on MOG appears to be listening to them, and the record store got their proper album for me, so I'm going to keep badgering you in hopes that someone else will actually listen to them and maybe buy a fucking record or something. What can I say, I'm a sucker for loud, sort of poppy songs about women making you miserable. Like I said, I love Jawbreaker, so I guess this kind of gets me somewhere between that bit and my love of Bouncing Souls.
The proper full-length, "Call It Off", contains all but one of the songs I found online way back when except for one, but the two that show up here, "I Was Wrong" and "Statues/Shadows" seem to have been redone to fit in with the somewhat bigger sound that the whole album seems to have. I feel like "I was Wrong" lost a little bit of its charm, but I'm self-aware enough to kow I'd love this version having never heard the other. All the tracks except one are pretty consistently good, except for "Pick Me Up" which just does nothing for me. I have a feelign they knew it was a weak link thus being stuck right in the middle with good songs on both ends.
The track I figured on posting up here at first, "Again & Again", turned out not to be on the album, so instead you're getting the titlte track, whihc is a pretty good representation of the album. Who knows, maybe you'll like it. And maybe they'll make enough money that a band cranking out worthwhile pop rock will stick around for a bit before getting drowned out by the usual soulless made-for-MTV stuff. If not, oh well, I liked what I got so far.
