Thoughts on the White Stripes

I've been back at school for a few weeks and, as such, haven't had much time for Mogging. But since I'm creating a moment of free time before I pass out/go to sleep, I figured I'd post some brief but bottled-up thoughts about the White Stripes.
First of all, I love the White Stripes. I bought tickets to their concert at Berkeley for a reason. I had the honor of meeting both Whites after a show several years ago (the first time I saw them), and it was awesome. They blew me away live - they didn't have a set list (incredibly daring for a popular act in the manufactured, pre-packaged time we live in), and Jack is one monster of a guitarist. And say what you want about Meg - she's arguably a shitty drummer, but no one could replace her. Only after you've seen them live a few times can you understand the intense connection they have together, a connection which allows her to know what song is up next when Jack so much as looks at her. Yes, many bands have amazing chemistry, but ol' Jackie White and his "sister" take it to a whole new level.
That said, what the hell is going on here? They cancel an entire tour for Meg's "acute anxiety"? Again, don't get me wrong - if she sincerely has a health issue, I wish her the best. But come on. Acute anxiety? Keeping in mind what I just said about Meg, she isn't a great drummer. It's not as though she's sweating her sanity out through her pores as she jams away with some mad beats. No. Technically speaking, she's a mediocre drummer at best. Maybe she's stressed about her suckiness. Who knows. But the point is that I was way excited for a killer concert. Their latest album may not be their best, but I've seen them enough times to know they'll put on a killer show anyway - they always do.
I really respect the White Stripes for a lot of reasons. They represent to me some of the creative vitality and edginess that make good ol' rock 'n' roll living for - and, perhaps, dying for. But when such a powerful artistic force cancels over 30 tours because of "acute anxiety," what can we expect from everyone else?
