The Willowz - Too Hollow for My Taste

Posted over 5 years ago
I work for the student radio station at Ohio University (acrn.com if you care to check it out) and I do these local music interviews every Friday at 5. A couple weeks ago, The Willowz came to town. I was pumped... they were interested in an interview. A band from California was coming to ATHENS. Athens, Ohio. We don't get many artists from that far across the country. Not to mention they had a song on the soundtrack for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (incredible movie, awesome soundtrack) and they have two on the sountrack of The Science of Sleep.... another movie by the same creators which I hear is pretty interesting also. So I was excited. And I was let down. Yea, The Willowz may have an original sound and a cool image. But when it came down to who The Willowz were as people, they failed to impress me. Sarcastic answers... inside jokes that listeners wouldn't understand... they managed to alienate me. I wanted to walk right out of the studio. The fact that I just wanted to go home might have been partly because they showed up for the interview 2 and a half hours late. I don't know. But disappointment after disappointment with them. Overrated? Maybe.

  3. SWozniak says Sucks when that happens. It all goes to their head and they feel they ought to do what they can and want to do, regardless of what people think. I say you take their music out of the rotation for a few weeks. Even though I don't condone retribution.

  4. willotoons says Ya, I liked their CD and saw them a year or so ago and couldn't get into it live. (I also was really grossed out by their hippy long hair, too. ha)
