Song of the Day: Goldfrapp - "Black Cherry"

The title track from Goldfrapp's Black Cherry doesn't sound very similar at all to the rest of that record. Their second album saw Will Gregory and Alison Goldfrapp moving toward a more dance-oriented blend of disco and glam influences. But "Black Cherry" itself hearkens back to the ambience of debut Felt Mountain. Rumored to be written by Alison about her breakup ("All the world in one grain of sand/ And I've blown it"), a brittle emotional feel comes across both in both lyric and music.
Warm and elegant production frames the song, from the organ-evoking intro to a crescendo of strings in the finale. And with such shimmering synths, it's no wonder that M83's Anthony Gonzalez was inspired to remix it for the single release. This is not a lazy downtempo track, but a torch song for the computer age.

this is easily the best song on that album. I love that you posted the SOTD again. I will get right back on that, as soon as I stop blazing through new music and am able to smell the proverbial roses;)
