I'm going out on a limb here, but I have to say that "Slide Away" by Oasis is the most beautiful song Mssr. Noel Gallagher has ever written.I've become so wary of the British musical press (NME, I'm looking right at you...) because of their ridiculous compulsion towards overhyping every Razorlight as the next Beatles. But I think they were wholly vindicated of going bonkers over the Mancunian lads' 1994 debut Definitely Maybe. It showed a ridiculous amount of promise, which-- incredibly--Oasis would mostly deliver on with followup (What's The Story) Morning Glory?"Slide Away" remains lyrically one of Noel's most hopeful songs from Definitely Maybe ("I dream of you/and we talk of growing old/but you said please don't") and it's buoyed by a fantastic, memorable melody sung by Liam. And you really ought to check this Liam-less version out, too.
