Song of the Day: Brand New - "Jesus Christ"

Brand New began sloughing off their "emo pop punk" tags with 2003's Deja Entendu, which showed hints of progressive, textural production. Three years later, The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me unveiled a maturing band getting more interesting with each record. New songs married the raw, energetic rush of their early work to increasingly diverse arrangements and probing, philosophical lines from frontman Jesse Lacey.
While none of these enhancements will do much to land you on MTV, well-formed tunes like the atmospheric "Jesus Christ" were the result. The simple, hypnotic guitar of Vincent Accardi frames Lacey's lyrics, which dig through the religious baggage of a Christian upbringing, and tiptoe around monolithic themes of doubt and faith, guilt and innocence.

These guys never were able to catapult (outside of NY/Long Island/NJ) into the much respected mainstream underground. Seems like even after The Devil... record, they were still very much a band who took the likes of their own stereotypes w/ them on the road.
Much respect to Brand New.
Exactly...they need an "UnWarped Tour", featuring recovering emo-pop-punk bands that are actually worth a damn. Brand New could headline.
