Originally pressed as a B-side to the Postal Service's single, this Iron & Wine tune really started bending ears when it showed up on the soundtrack for Zach Braff's Garden State. A masterful cover, it trades Jimmy Tamborello's skittering, Nintendo beats for plaintive acoustic guitar chords and Ben Gibbard's sincere yelp for Sam Beam's hushed vocal.
Beam's take not only explores the tenderness evident in Gibbard's lyrics, but also returns the song to its roots: if recent Gibbard solo performances are any indicator, he wrote "Such Great Heights" in a similarly stripped-down manner before Tamborello reformed it electronically for Give Up.
