Song of the Day: M83 - "We Own the Sky"

Track:

On Saturdays=Youth, Anthony Gonzalez of M83 churns out the kind of epic, spacey, electronic anthems that Pink Floyd would've, had they only a better Roland synthesizer and maybe a little less LSD.
The voices on "We Own The Sky" are mixed low and whispery, and often lost in the layers of arena-sized synths and celestial guitar tones. There's something about burnt stars crying and secrets from the winds—but who cares? As My Bloody Valentine's Loveless most famously demonstrated, lyrics are hardly the point in shoegaze. Sometimes it's enough simply to be swallowed in the sound.

"Sometimes it’s enough simply to be swallowed in the sound" I agree 100%. This is a great song and, despite all the hipsters all the cover, this is a much enjoyable album.
Apparently, the hipsters on the cover are all wearing clothes from 1980's John Hughes films like Sixteen Candles and Pretty in Pink. M83's got a big thing for those movies, and he's said that they informed a lot of Saturdays=Youth.
Really? I had no idea! Fashion and its circles. That gives the cover a whole new perspective, thanks!
