OMG

In defence of Scarlett Johansson

So is it just me that thinks the ScarJo album is bloody fantastic? It sounds to me like something that 4AD could have released. In fact, it turns out that 4AD big cheese Ivo Watts-Russell was the person who actually sequenced the album.I love the fact that it combines Tom Waits unforgettable melodies with shoegazey wooziness. I love the fact that Bowie turns up and does his best Bowie warbling. No, her voice isn't perfect, but it's not that far off sounding like Hope Sandoval and, on "I Wish I Was In New Orleans" it comes pretty close to Elizabeth Frazer from the Cocteau Twins. I think the fragility of her voice is beautiful and honest and I don't care what you think. You're wrong! ;)And I'm posting again for the first time in months. Again. I'm hoping the site has become a bit more reliable.

  2. dragonhead says Glad somebody agrees with me! When I say that MOG has been slow, I'm talking historically. I haven't posted in so long because I found the site to be terribly unreliable. Is it all fixed now?

  3. FluxCapacitor says I'm in the middle of listening to it at the moment. So far, I concur with you! First impression is that her vocals are a little low down in the mix, but her 'masculine' voice suits Waits themes. I also like Sitek's production. Certainly not the disaster some people have said it is.
