MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

There have been lots of albums that have come out this year. Some were good, some were great and some were so bad they their creators should be banned from making music ever again. I have listened to several of them and will give you my take on a few. These are not indepth albums reivews but rather my opinions of the albums. I should also state that I am a fan of Rock and Roll but I do listen to most other types of music and I can appreciate music even if I don't particularly like it. I have written about several different artists in several different genres.

Matisyahu - Youth

This album was unique, different and not what I expected. Matisyahu, like Sean Paul before him, has crossed over from the reggae scene to the mainstream. I enjoyed this album as a stark contrast all the other music that was put out at the time. Not to mention that fact that he doesn't touch girls makes the fact that he has groupies hillarious. This album is more then just reggae, it has a wonderful varitey of beats, and good harmony and melody. The lyrics are excellent and touch on the themes that are too often neglected in todays pop culture. The themes of true love, spirtualaity and tolerance really make this album a nice breath of fresh air.

Bubba Sparxxx - Charm

I was very much disappointed with this album. I enjoyed his debut CD but this cd sounded a lot like everyone rap album out there. He has become incorpated into southern hip-hop culture. I enjoyed his hick rap but its gone replace with current trends in sounds and rhyme. If you like current rap you'll probably like this album. I mean the guy can rap and rhyme, but the uniqueness that was his last album is gone.

Bruce Springstein - We shall overcome the seiger sessions

Man, was I impressed with this album. I didn't think I would like this album at all, as folk music is not my thing, but this was a real pleasant suprise. This is an album that is more then just great lyrics. I came across that the Boss was trying to tell me something about this country, about the time we live in. I really thought and felt the Boss heart into this album. There is real love in this album, a real sense of greatness.

If you consider yourself a fan of music you should download a track or two or better yet buy this album, you owe it to yourself. I mean this Album is just great, it really plays off of your emotions and is just a really pleasant expereince.

Godsmack - IV

I had high hopes for this album and they did not meet them. I am a fan of godsmack and I have all their studio albums, but this just sounded like the same old godsmack. They didn't take any chances, they didn't do anything special, they just rocked as hard and as fast they could. The lyrics and beats are basically the same as any other hard album. How much you like hard rock will determine how much you'll like this album.

The Dixie Chicks - The long way

This was the second biggest suprise of the year. I am not a fan of country music at all, but I enjoyed this album. I'm not really sure what it is about this album, but it just really spoke to me. If you are a fan of the dixie chicks or are a fan of country music you'll like this album a lot, and you'll like it even if you don't like country music. They are creative and really good song writers.

This album is exactly like Green Days Nimrod, its about moving on from what got you started to go with where you want to go. This is about moving beyond the conventional and expressing what you are feeling and what you are believing.

Buy this album.

Nelly Furtado - Loose

This album is a far cry from her previous works and that makes it a good thing or a bad thing depending on your point of view. Really what this album shows is the greatest of Timberland, who had really been off his mark recently(I have always believed that up until this record he hadn't fully recovered from the death of Aliyah, but thats just me). The amazing beats of Timberland and the incredible voice of Mrs Furtado more then make of for the below average and mundane lyrics. I mean with Lyrics like “Let’s start a frat, Gamma Gamma Gamma Phat!” and “I do like sports, But I don’t like wearing shorts,” you need a great beat and a great voice.

Live - Songs from Black Mountian

I have always liked Live. Their early work never really hit me, I guess I never understood what sound the band was trying for or was they were trying to sing about. I didn't get that they were going on a journey, and now as older more mature people and artists they continue on this journey.

This is not an album to rock out to, but it doesn't have to be. This album is rather mellow, but not overly emo, this album is about the emotions of living, of having a family, of faith and of love. I thought that this was more relaxed and to be honest it was pleasantly suprising. The album works well from top to bottom.

Three Days Grace - One X

This is a great album. All though I am fan of three days grace and was looking forward to this album release, I still think you should get it. It is a great mix of hard and few smoother songs, which makes it great listen through. They took their sounds to the next level. I wished they had done some more expeirmenting, but this CD came out more then fine.

Gov't Mule - High & Mighty

My most underrated and under appreciated album. I was not really a fan before this album, I had barely heard of them before this album actually. This album was really just made well. If you looked up Rock Album on Wikipedia you should fine a picture of this album

Breaking Benjamin - Phobia

This is how you make a follow up to a hit album. This album was really everything I thought should be done a band, but done better. They experiment, took risks and evolved their sound. They didn't just try and make another rock album or another breaking benjamin album, they tried to make a great album and they succedded. Honestly I think this was the second best CD that came out this year.

And the best album?

Kevine Federline - Playing with Fire

This album was the worst album of the year. It would be hard to fine a worse album written in the last ten years. In fact this album was so bad it gave my dog cancer.

Sorry, the best Album of the year in my opinion was:

Weird AL - Straight out of Lynwood

Honestly, I haven't heard all the albums that came out this year, but this album has just kept me in stiches. White & Nerdy is just great and the style parody of Rage against the Machine was well amazing. There is nothing bad about this album.

Comedy and great music, what more does one need?

Honestly, what do you think was the best album?

The Bruce album is amazing. I was very surprised and impressed by it. He's got more soul than I thought.

Also love the Gov't Mule album. Warren Haynes is incredible. You should check out some of his live stuff.

I have to say I think my top 5 albums this year are:

Evanescence - The Open Door Muse - Black Holes And Revelations Snow Patrol - Eyes Open Starsailor - On The Outside Weird Al Yankovic - Straight Outta Lynwood

But I don't know how to order them. Right now I think Starsailor, Snow Patrol, Ev, Muse, Weird Al. 1st to 5th.

Red Hot Chili Peppers gets a 6th place with Stadium Arcadium, and Raconteurs come in at #7 with Broken Boy Soldiers.

But that's just my opinion.
