WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Album Review Master of the treadmill

Posted over 2 years ago
OK Go has teamed up with Nike and iTunes to create a soundtrack for those who want to run speed intervals on a treadmill. The album is 12 tracks longs with the lead singer, Damian Kulash, as your coach, telling you what you have to do and then giving you advice and encouragement throughout the workout. This workout and album is all about speed and energy. The music makes you push harder and faster and will aid you in your new year fitness goals. There are no new songs, but just slightly remixed versions of the songs off the albums "Oh No" and the self-titled "OK Go". Kulash's deadpan delivery of advice and commands works really well as it is a nice contrast to the high intensity of the music and workout. When you need to run fast, the songs are fast-paced and high energy; when you need to recover and cool down, the songs are slower and easier. I must admit that I'm a fan of this type of music organization. I find I run better and in general do better athletically with better music. This album is being released as part of Nike's advertising campaign of new year fitness. If you are a treadmill runner and would like some music to run to, I'd recommend downloading this album from iTunes. If you're an OK Go fan and you are only buying the album to have a complete OK Go collection, you'll be wasting your money. The CD is a little over half an hour long and costs $14.99.

  3. acmestyled says hbo recently aired a show (on demand) with ok go, kind of the video version of entertainment weekly's old column (actually a part of ew's "listen 2 this" music supplement) called "five rounds with." (take a band to a bar, drink five rounds with them, let the interview unravel.) there's a clip of it here:

  6. Augusts1 says That's unfortunate that Ok Go is marketing their music like that. It makes total sense though since they did that hilarious treadmill video. I do love their music and just recently bought the regular "Oh No" cd. I think Damian writes perfect pop rock songs and would have liked to continue thinking he was doing it purely out of his love of music. But he has to make a living too and I'm sure Nike paid him handsomely for the use of him and the music. Also, I saw on YouTube a spoof of instructional videos where Damian was pretending to be a ping pong pro. It's pretty funny. I think it's also on their website. So really the Nike workout cd is a perfect "next step" the more I think about it. I just don't have to like it or buy it, lol.
