This week I want to feature a band who seem like Finland’s answer to Metric. Husky Rescue are a 5 piece from Helsinki who carry that same brash confidence as Emily Haine’s band, albeit with a slighly more mellow and introspective view of the world. Named after pretty much your last hope somewhere in the wilds of Finland it’s worth looking at the pictures on their website, as they certainly have an individual look - Queens of the Stoneage fronted by Heidi? Still it isn’t the looks that matter, it’s the tunes, and this band certainly delivers. Their music has an expansive, ethereal quality which has a place in the confines of a busy city, or diffusing through the snow-covered branches of a pine forest. It is at times sorrowful, whilst at other times it begs for you to tap your feet along to the infectious rhythms, before utterly bewitcheing you with Reeta-Leena Korhola’s captivating vocals.I’m always one for strong female lead vocalists, especially when their voices are this pure and I definitely want to hear more of this band. They released their latest album Ghost is not Real at the end of January and according to reviews it betters their first release. A copy should be winging it’s way to me soon. In the meantime enjoy this video for the track entitled Diamonds in the Sky off the new album.Myspace · Catskills Records
