Buoyed by I AM's bringing up Leeds wonders The Mekons in last night's post. (Although honestly, it would seem that all of the principle members live in Chicago now.) I thought I'd drop some "Where Are They Now" action on you. (Also because there were apparently somewhere between 10 and 80 million members¹ of The Mekons, I have concentrated on the ones I was not too lazy to Google).1st here's a vid of The Mekons - Hole In The Ground. The Mekons. In no apparent order... (Assembled herein for you #$^#$s that are too lazy to Google)Tom Greenhalgh. Lives somewhere between the UK and Hong Kong. How is that for mysterious? Tom was always heavily involved (as many Mekons) in the visual arts. He created this cover:
I have no idea what he or Kevin Lycett are doing now. Sally Timms Sally continues to record solo albums and to play with the various Mekon-incesticidal projects like The Waco Bros.Jon gets into it with the Mgt². Here's Jon Langford kicking it lo-fi in a bookstore strumming 'Walking On Hell's Roof Looking At The Flowers' from Electric Waco Chair by Waco Brothers. And some other bonus bits...

Here's Jon Langford kicking it lo-fi in a bookstore strumming 'Walking On Hell's Roof Looking At The Flowers' from Electric Waco Chair by Waco Brothers. And some other bonus bits... Jon Langford has been busy as an artist and as founder of several solo and band projects, including the Waco Brothers (a punk-meets-Johnny Cash-like ensemble) and the Pine Valley Cosmonauts (exploring the music of Bob Wills, Johnny Cash and others). Besides his solo albums he has released CDs with Richard Buckner and Kevin Coyne.Sarah Corina is currently playing bass in Striplight, which also features Alex Mitchell (ex-Curve), Liz Tumber and Mark Woodgate. There are a bunch of mp3s you can find from the Striplight site. Totally rocking. (I had to stop and watch a Curve vid on Youtube. I'd forgotten how much I dug them). This vid doesn't do them justice like the mp3s on their site. But you can kind of get the idea:The multi-talented Lu Edmunds can be found on a lot of different recordings. Starting off as The Damned's guitarist he went on to play with The Mekons, Billy Bragg and as you see below PiL (bass):Steve Goulding - Drummer. Wow.Credits include: David Bowie, Roxy Music, Gang of Four, Graham Parker, The Mekons and many more...Here he is with an all-star cast of alt-Country artists in The Waco Brothers: Death of Country Music.Rico Bell
All Music Guide: Biography by Steve HueyAlt-country/roots-rock singer-songwriter Rico Bell is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist (playing guitar, accordion, melodion, harmonica, and keyboards), as well as a compelling storyteller whose good-natured humor belies a darker worldview. Bell began recording for the Bloodshot label with 1996's The Return of Rico Bell; he followed it up with 1999's Dark Side of the Mersey, which featured his backing unit the Snakehandlers. Here he plays with something called "Johnny Jumps The Bandwagon" preforming "Meet Jacqueline." Dig the 80's stylin'!
Archive video of tongue-in-cheek pranksters, Johnny Jumps the Bandwagon performing the Troggs obscure classic Meet Jacqueline. Recorded at the Astoria Leeds in the mid 80s. Featuring a line up of Tony Baker: Vocals / Kitty Lux: Vocals (Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain) / Sir Michael McSween: Guitar / Judge Paul Staniforth: Bass / Dave Lee: Drums (The Ukrainians) / Rico Bell: Keyboards, Blues Harp (The Mekons) / Alan Wilkinson (Termite): Saxophone / Pete Crazy: Saxophone / Wendy Frith: M C.Fiddler Susie Honeyman "She had a baby, called Annie Morag Honeyman McFaddean. She looks like her father and hopefully will have the mind of Susie."¹ - ok maybe a bit of an exageration.² - Hillarious. Don't piss orf the aged post-punkaz.
