Radiohead Concert Old Trafford Cricket ground 19th June 2008

Posted almost 4 years ago

Radiohead finished the last British gig of their current tour at Lancashire County Cricket Ground last night.

The gig started with two supports namely "MGMT", good set, and "Bat for Lashes", boring and dreary.

The main event, in all was very good, mixing many greatest hits with their latest album "In Rainbows". The setlist is a follows:-

01 15 Step
02 Airbag
03 There There
04 All I Need
05 Nude
06 Arpeggi
07 The Gloaming
08 The National Anthem
09 Faust Arp [People are moshing during Faust Arp! Thom: "Enough. Who'd we look like, the Arctic Monkeys?"]
10 No Surprises
11 Jigsaw Falling Into Place
12 Reckoner
13 Just
14 Bangers 'n Mash
15 Everything In Its Right Place
16 Fake Plastic Trees
17 Bodysnatchers

Encore 1
18 Videotape
19 Paranoid Android
20 Myxomatosis
21 Optimistic [Thom: "You ever met a politician and got the feeling they're hollow inside? I had that feeling. However, I remain optimistic".]
22 Karma Police

Encore 2
23 Pyramid Song
24 2+2=5
25 Idioteque

Encore 3
26 Lucky

Thanks to www.ateaseweb.com for this set.

The set is generally good, although I get annoyed with bands that refuse to do particular Great Hits. In this case the songs "Creep" and "Street Spirit". Radiohead's fans have paid a lot of money to see them and want to hear certain songs and the two listed are essentials in any Radiohead set, regardless of whether the band are bored of these songs or not. I feel they have a duty to perform them.

That said, as you would expect from seasoned performers the act was class and Thom Yorke was particularly animated. In fact you can tell Thom enjoys the latter music of Radiohead, "Kid A" onwards, rather than the classics that are "OK Computer" and "The Bend". At over 2 hours with 26 songs and 3 encores a very enjoyable way to spend a Sunday evening.
