best albums of 2008
This year it was harder for me to discover new music since I make most of those discoveries by surfing the 'Net and since my computer died back in August, it was harder for me to spend copious amounts of time online. I did do quite a bit of music hunting while I was at work and, in what may be another sign of my advancing oldness, much of the new music I liked this year was mellower than what I normally listen to. I still dig the hard stuff and the big beats, but when I listen to it now, it's usually from way back in the day, like the '70s and '80s. With that being said, these are, in no particular order, the albums I dug in 2008:
1. David Byrne & Brian Eno--Everything That Will Happen Will Happen Today
2. Vampire Weekend--s/t
3. Raphael Saadiq--Way I See It
4. Hold Steady--Stay Positive
5. Lil' Wayne--Tha Carter III
6. Coldplay--Viva La Vida
7. Nick Cave--Dig Lazarus Dig
8. Frightened Rabbit--Midnight Organ Flight
9. MGMT--Oracular Spectacular
10. Dials--Amoeba Amore
11. My Morning Jacket--Evil Urges
12. Adele--19
13. TV On The Radio--Dear Science
14. Santogold--s/t
15. Local H--12 Angry Months
16. Bon Iver--For Emma Forever Ago
17. Fleet Foxes--s/t
18. Tallest Man On Earth--Shallow Grave
19. Toumani Diabate--Mande Variations
20. Metronomy--Nights Out
21. She & Him--Vol. 1
22. Killers--Day & Age
23. Elzhi--Preface
24. Before The Dawn--Sounscape Of Silence
25. Hayes Carll-Trouble In Mind
