Roxy Music......."the single most influential band of the 70's"
In what respect?
without roxy .....no punk,,,without eno no techno/dance
without roxy .....no punk,
You say what? Perhaps, and only in the sense that the "Punk rock" & (rap) were reactions against the over-blown, pretentious, ridiculously over-produced shlock that dominated early seventies radio.
can I suggest you listen to souixsie & the banshees ,early cure and some of the more esoteric fringes of the first wave of punk, many of whom are obviously influenced by the more experimental side of roxy's early work,as for rap i never mentioned it....but one of the early exponents of sampling and altering noises was i think you'll find Brian Eno you can find his earliest work on roxy musics' first and second albums.
Now whilst I may have claimed roxy as "the single most influential band of the 70's"to be a little provocative the fact remains they are an important influence on many later bands. You're knee-jerk reaction would tend to suggest that not only are you not familiar with their work but you're not prepared to listen and discover it...........why are you on this site ????
I'm on this site because I love music, all kinds of music. I have R.M.'s first two albums (on vinyl). I thought then, as I think now, they were pretentious, precious and full of themselves.
