I suppose I'm just reacting to being forced to listen to the same 20 hip hop songs hour after hour, working in a restaurant in which the kitchen likes to listen to hip hop radio, but they really are great...
The Shins rock!
They first caught my attention with the song, "New Slang", which I heard on an alternative radio station a few years back. Then, I finally watched the movie, Garden State, and it's on that soundtrack. Natalie Portman plays the song for her new friend, while they are waiting at the doctor's office.
I especially like "New Slang", but I have a lot of new favorites, including "A Comet Appears", "Pink Bullets", and "Sea Legs". I want more!
They have a very retro-70's feel, but they also have a modern touch to their production and their lyrics. They do some pretty, folky stuff, but they also have some rockers, like "So Says I".
