MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

According to the BBC radio newsletter, (this info has not been added to their website yet) the legendary Johnny Clarke will be joining BBC radio 2 host, Mark Lamarr, on his next "Reggae Show".

Johnny Clarke is probably most well known for his song, "King In The Arena", which he later did a special dubplate version of called, "Death In The Arena". Soundsystems involved in soundclash competitions are fond of the dubplate version because it refers to "killing" the competition's sound.

''During the years 1975 - 1981, the period that Bob Marley and the Wailers gained their huge international audience, three singers ruled the Jamaican Dancehall - Dennis Brown, Gregory Issacs and Johnny Clarke. Both Dennis and Gregory went on to attract considerable recognition outside Jamaica; of the trio, Johnny Clarke is still the least known internationally.' Steve Barrow - 1998

That quote is on the front page of a website all about Johhny C. While the header reads JohnnyClarke.com, that does not appear to be the working address. Clicking on the Johnny C link there will get you to the right place. This website has tons of info, pix, discography, etc. Very useful!

The radio show airs Wednesday nights at 9pm. That's UK time, so for west coast US that would be 1pm on Wednesday. Of course, BBC archives each show for one week. You can listen to it anytime after its airing by going to the Reggae Show BBC page and clicking on the show in the audio box on the right. Thanks for the post. Must check this out. That listen again feature on the BBC page is so flippin' handy. I was listening to Radio 4's Desert Island Discs on the 16th with Andy Kershaw as the Castaway, and did not catch the whole programme when it went out - so I should be able to 'listen again'. Bugger. Scratch that, I have just noticed that, "For rights reasons Desert Island Discs is not available as a listen again item". Oh, ARSE!!

I will just have to recreate the play list myself.
