As soon as I can afford to be a jet-setter, I am going to acquire a flat near London and a frequent flyer membership. Then, every time I hear about something happening in London that is INFINITELY cooler than anything happening in SF, I am going to book a seat, grab my passport and jump over the pond. If I were able to procure these things in the next month, you would definitely find me in London on 4 October for a very special live performance by Murcof. The Mexican laptop wizard is about to release his third album, Cosmos, on 17 September on The Leaf Label. To celebrate, he will be performing in surround sound at the Peter Harrison Planetarium, at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich. I don't know if there will be a laser show, but just leaning back and gazing at infinite space, swimming in a sea of stars and solar systems, and letting the Cosmos wash over me would be such relaxing bliss...
There are only 100 tix available for that show, so you might want to investigate his other appearances if you can't snag a seat for this show. Murcof will be playing music from Cosmos at Colchester Arts Centre on 3 October and at Glasgow's Arches on 7 October. He will be touring Europe's planetariums for awhile, so keep checking his website to find out when he will be headed your way. The forthcoming album is described on his website thus:Truly monumental in scale, Cosmos is composed almost entirely of recordings of classical instruments, a process which Corona describes as “expanding the possibilities of acoustic instruments through electronics.” It’s a move away from the micro-programmed sound he helped to pioneer, and his seamless integration of these apparently opposed forms is almost unprecedented.
