Sheryl Crow Works For Satan, Scares Archbishop

Posted almost 5 years ago
Raymond Burke, the Roman Catholic archbishop of St. Louis resigned as head of Cardinal Glennon Children's Foundation, a children's medical charity that is holding a benfit concert on Saturday that features Sheryl Crow. Burke made the statement :"When, for economic gain, a Catholic institution associates itself with such a high profile proponent of the destruction of innocent lives, members of the church and other people of good will have the right to be confirmed in their commitment to the gospel of life".The archdiocese has been distributing a fact sheet about Crow which claims that her views and stance on abortion and stem cell research is scandalous. The fact sheet also claims that Catholic Catechism defines scandal as "an attitude or behavior which leads another to evil."Read the full article on Reuters News

  1. Dale says Laugh if you must, but I think he has a point. Why would a group get an artist to promote their services if the artist has completely divergent views? Simply put; to get more donations. That's not exactly being true to yourself, is it?

  2. chucky says No, I think he's wrong. She isn't singing for one of those centers that discourages women from abortions - she's singing to benefit a children's foundation. Apples and oranges. That's cutting off your nose to spite your face, if she disagrees on one issue then she can't help with any other issue?

  3. Dale says If it wasn't a Catholic organization, I'd agree, but it's all or nothing, IMHO.

  4. chucky says Eh, shunning someone when they don't agree with you 100% seems harsh to me. I get your point, but I think he's being petty. He's choosing dogma over real life people (ie - the kids that would benefit from the money she'd be able to raise for them). So, his actions are actually negatively impacting kids while her views aren't.

  5. Dale says I'm not saying he didn't over-react, but I don't think I would have even offered the invite to begin with. That's all I'm saying. Calling her scandalous is waaaay over-the-top.

  6. dj ivi says chucky - that was how i saw it : the kids benefit from someone who is really putting her energy into social good. but i understand why he feels righteous by seeing the issue within a dualistic world view, black or white, all or nothing. it's a power trip though. religious "leaders" are rarely good role models. they lack the skills vital to coexisting on a shrinking planet with a growing population.

  8. chucky says dj ivi, it is a black and white thing for many religious leaders I think. If I try really hard, I can see how they have little choice from where they're standing but it's so far removed from where I am that it chaps my ass. Dale, :) I want you to know that I heart you even if we don't agree completely.

  9. Lavienrose75 says This is ridiculous. During the Crusades the Catholics killed hundreds of thousands of people and yet nobody thinks of them as being evil. The priests have molested literally thousands of trusting innocent children, and still nobody things of them as being evil. The Catholic church bought the art work Hitler stole from the Jews and still to this day, refuses to return it to the rightful owners, clearly in contradiction of the Ten Commandments which says NOT to covet what is thy neighbor's and NOT to steal. When you get right down to it, if it hadn't been for the Catholic's contribution to buy stolen art work, Hitler may not have had the money he needed to continue killing Jews in ovens. I suppose there is no group of people more knowledgeable about what is and is not evil than the Catholics, but Sheryl Crow??? Gimme a break. I think if the Catholics will simply practice what they preach, leave the children alone, and return stuff that doesn't belong to them, they'd be too busy to meddle in Sheryl Crow's life. Sin is sin, plain and simple. How can you say you are fit to judge others, when you have so much sin in your own camp? I enjoy Sheryl's music. Leave the judging to God. Last I knew, God had not died and put someone else in charge.

  10. Lavienrose75 says I just noticed that Raymond Burke is the one making the comments about Sheryl Crow. Interesting. . . I remember he was the one who was so outspoken during our last presidential election, telling people who they had to vote for or face excommunication and never be able to take the Sacrament again. Separation of church and state?? Clearly he *thinks* he is all knowing, but he's NOT. If we let people like Burke coerce our public leaders, where will it end? What if Burke used this same coersion on the U.S. Supreme Court? What if he used it on members of Congress? Wouldn't we then have nothing more than a dictatorship? It's scary to think some people actually believe Burke represents what is Holy. I guess that's how Hitler began to take over, he convinced others what he believed was the truth. I pray we NEVER let people like Burke decide what is just. God forbid we allow history to repeat itself.
