Interscope Drops Simian Mobile Disco From Label

Posted almost 4 years ago
For reasons unknown, Interscope Records has dropped Simian Mobile Disco from their roster. This leaves the band without US distribution. I guess dance music still doesn't pay the bills in the US. So, until they find a new american rep, fans will have to get the goods directly from the band's myspace page and cool online gadgets like this informative widget I found on FADER. It features tour dates, an exclusive mix, videos and more! http://www.myspace.com/simianmobilediscohttp://www.simianmobiledisco.co.uk/

  2. hawaiianpunch says awesome. American capitalism comes through again. Can always count on our companies to make stupid decisions based on arbitrary numbers. Here's a thought, Interscope. Start marketing your artists! And how about dropping people who deserve it: 50 Cent & G-Unit, Dr. Dre (only because he's never released anything in forever and probably has the money to survive without you), D-12 and a bunch of other bands and artists who have never even released anything yet. But, because you go off crying over the poor sales of a band you have no idea how to market in America (try dance clubs idjits), you drop them and close them off to mainstream distribution here. Thanks a lot! On another note, this could just be another nail in the coffin of major labels who have all the money for marketing but have no idea how to use it and waste it on crap artists instead of nurturing real talent. More and more I see that the internet and other independent routes of distribution are working out the best in terms of getting real music into real people's hands in the broadest choices possible. That can only be a good thing if that's direction we are really going in. On Simian Mobile Disco, it goes without saying that I love them, and the album is great. Not much to say 'bout that. OK, back to looking for Lykke Li tickets.

  3. Hermes says Simian Mobile Disco was and is huge over here. I don't know how many records are sold, if you're a club hit, but I can't imagine, that it doesn't pay your bills. Well Simian could survive alone by Djing and making concerts I guess. That brings more money in any event, than record selling, where they just get one dollar per album or similar absurd sums. And I can't imagine, that Simian now is not able to pick a label. Or I'm just too trustful in the in common sense ;).
